About Me
Zowie Martin is a British Wheel of Yoga teacher and Thai Yoga Massage practitioner with over 20 years experience of teaching.
“I find it difficult to name my style as that feels restrictive, but I have been influenced over the years by many approaches to Yoga, particularly Scaravelli but also Viniyoga/AYS and Iyengar. Buddhism, an interest in body/energy work and our connection to natures cycles as well as western psychology also come through. I like the freedom to draw on everything I am interested in and inspired by and discover most through experimenting with my own practise in different ways through lifes variables as well as continuous ongoing studies to support my personal findings”.
In addition to ongoing Yoga studies (including specialising in Pregnancy Yoga after the birth of her second child), Zowie completed First and Second Degree Reiki in 2010 and a Thai Yoga Massage practitioner diploma in 2014.
Interested in the then growing mindfulness movement and understanding the differences and similarities to Buddhism, she completed a 6 month BWY Mindfulness module in 2016 and then went on to pass a level 1 mindfulness teacher training with CMI (clear mind institute). This meditative aspect of practice is woven through her classes.
As well as regular drop in classes in St Leonards studio and on zoom, she also organises events, teaches on Yoga Teacher Training and leads yoga holidays abroad.
Zowie is a co-founder and director of St Leonards Studio CIC, a community interest company and busy centre for yoga and other practices in St Leonard’s, Hastings, which opened in October 2016. www.stleonards.studio
